It’s March 14, which as everyone knows (right?) is Pi Day! Why pi? Because pi is 3.14 of course!
For the past few years we have had a lot of fun with Pi Day and since we love to spend time in the kitchen, our pi-like celebrations pretty much mean eating pie. Not a whole lot of math, admittedly. But it is fun to have a reason to eat pie!
Wait, here is an equation:
Pi Day + The Browns = Eat pie!
There ya go. We’re so math-y.
Here are a few suggestions for pies we’ve shared that you can whip up in honor of Pi Day:
1) For many pies, you’ll need a good crust to start. Try our Easy Homemade Pie Crust as a base for your favorite filling:
2) Pumpkin pie is always a hit in our house. While it is not the season for fresh pumpkins right now, we still have cans of pumpkin hanging out in our pantry – that means we can whip up this pie in a flash! Abbie made the pie in the picture below all by herself at age 11, so don’t tell us it’s too hard to make a pumpkin pie from scratch!
3) Here’s an itty-bitty dessert pie you could make – just call them Strawberry Lemon Dessert Pizza Pies!
4) We made these Mini Chocolate Kiss Pies for our friends at BuildAMenu last year. Another easy and deeeeelicious pie treat:
But wait! Pie doesn’t have to be sweet!
Every year we usually eat two pies – one sweet and one savory. Here are some non-sugary favorites:
5) Good ol’ Shepherd’s Pie… no crust on this one, but loads of buttery mashed potatoes
6) Bird’s Nest Pie has a spaghetti crust that kids swoon over. This recipe can be assembled by a six year old! We made this recipe for BuildAMenu:
7) We don’t want to leave out the “pie” all kids love – pizza! Here are a few ways to throw together a REALLY fast one serving pizza:
8) Not small enough for you? How about pizza crackers? Easy enough for the litttlest hands!
So there you go! Now your turn – what is YOUR favorite pie? Are you making pie for Pi Day? Any pie recipes you’d like to see here?
Any day we celebrate pi(e) works for me! Happy Pi day!
