Finger knitting is both fun and easy! I learned to do this when I was three years old and I can make a lot very fast! – Abbie
Finger knitting is a great introduction to knitting and crocheting. It is ideal for young children who are just beginning to be able to do handwork. Learn how to finger knit then teach your little brother or sister! – Mrs. Brown
First make a slipknot as in the above photos.
To begin finger knitting:
1. Place the slip knot on your index finger.
2. Lay the working yarn (the yarn that goes to the ball) over your finger from front to back while holding the loop in place to keep it from rotating.
3. Pull the slip knot loop up and over the new loop…
4. …and off your finger.
Repeat steps 3 and 4, until the chain is as long as you want.
5. When your chain is the length you’d like…
6. …cut a tail off the working yarn…
7. …and insert it through the loop still on your finger.
8. Pull the yarn gently until you create a knot. Trim the ends.
You can use your finger knit chain in all sorts of ways. Try making a bookmark, using it to decorate your room or gifts, as a belt or necklace, in your hair, sewn in a spiral for a doll house rug… use your imagination!

That’s finger crocheting. Finger knitting is this: http://www.flaxandtwine.com/2012/01/finger-knitting-how-to.html
Katie, you’re right, some people call it finger crocheting. I (Patti) had only heard it called finger knitting until a few years ago. And some people call what is done in your link finger weaving (that’s what we call it). Whatever it is called both are fun! ๐ Have you tried it?
My daughters really want to learn how to finger knit. What a fun site you two have!
It is easy peasy Karee. Abbie learned at age 3.
What a great beginner activity!
I love to knit, and I’m having a daughter in January, would love to learn how to finger knit to teach her some day down the road…
Congratulations!
Our girls love finger knitting too. Our Christmas tree usually ends up quite adorned in recent projects!
Yes! A few years ago I felt like I lived in a spider web with the volume of finger knitting Abbie had draped around the house for decorations! ๐
No, I have never tried it
Never tried to finger knit before but my son and I love knitting!
Our oldest son was a fierce finger knitter in his younger days. I would give him a ball of yarn and next thing I knew he’d be across the room with a wall to wall trail!
my oldest daughter has tried to show me!! She loves to finger knit!
I love being taught by my parents, but teaching them is fun too!
This is so cool I tried it today!
