It’s pumpkins, apples and squash all the time at our house right now. We have scored bulk loads of these awesome fall harvest fruits and veggies, and we are using them to the max! Perfect time to whip up some pumpkin dip! Pumpkin dip makes a great snack or party offering. Pair it with apples, or our favorite, ginger snaps. If you are eating low carb, just powder the sweetener of your choice in a blender or coffee grinder (I keep one just for this purpose.) And if you are starting with a fresh pumpkin, check out our tutorial on […] Read more »
Cream of Mushroom Soup {THM-S}
For years I was the only person who liked mushrooms in our family, so I rarely purchased them. About a year ago, Abbie decided to try to expand her palate in the mushroom realm, so I happily began to cook them more often. I am still the only one who really likes mushrooms, but everyone else (except for the youngest) is willing to eat them. Even my husband said, “You know, I’m really not a mushroom fan, but this soup is delicious!” Most creamed soups are thickened with either potatoes or flour (usually using a roux.) Potatoes and wheat are […] Read more »
The Best Banana Bread
How can I call this the best banana bread recipe? Because I am picky. I do not like dry banana bread. I do not like bland banana bread. And it had better not fall apart in my hand. I tried a lot of recipes for banana bread (because bananas get overripe ridiculously fast and you can only drink so many smoothies) before I settled contentedly on this one. I have not made banana bread from another recipe for, let’s see, about 15 years. Banana bread is really pretty straightforward. Nothing fancy. Still, my kids wait in the kitchen when they […] Read more »
Quick Homemade Pizza Crust
This right here is my all time favorite pizza dough recipe. Why? Because it tastes delicious! And bonus: it requires very little rising time – just a 15 minute proofing and a 10 minute rest before spreading. Perfect for when you forgot to plan dinner. Which never ever happens to me. Ahem. I haven’t made this as a 100% whole wheat recipe, but you can substitute at least a cup of whole wheat flour if you’d like. You can also freeze this dough to use another time – wrap tightly in plastic wrap to freeze, and defrost in the refrigerator when […] Read more »

We sure appreciate your support of our crafting habits! Once again I am gob-smacked by Build A Menu. This week we are trying to cook from the pantry and freezer, so I knew a few of our favorites would be on the menu – we had all the ingredients. But I was still in the mood for something new, particularly snacks. I headed off to Build A Menu to plan. And […] Read more »
Peaches and Cream Muffins
Peaches are in season at the height of the summer, so now is the ideal time to stock up while they are on sale. In addition to enjoying them fresh, we like to freeze them for yummy smoothies all year long. And now we have a new recipe to add to our peachy repertoire! I was in the mood to whip up peach muffins the other day, but did not have a recipe. I did have cream cheese though. Mmmmm. So I played around and came up with this recipe, which I am calling Peaches and Cream Muffins. It is […] Read more »
Patriotic Salad
After sharing the Kale and Blackberry Salad in May, a friend of a friend made a version that included raspberries. Those pretty red berries got me to thinking… how could I make a red, white and blue salad? So I played around, and just in time for Independence Day, here it is! Starting with a base of spinach, you’ll layer on strawberries, blueberries and feta, then toss them with a simple lemon juice based dressing (you might recognize the flavor from the blackberry salad.) A yummy and light addition to your patriotic celebration! Patriotic Salad Print Prep […] Read more »
