Oreo Popcorn – A Fun Snack

Oreo Popcorn - Blossoms and PosiesWe had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, hanging out with the grandparents, enjoying family time and lots of delicious home made food!

Now we are in the midst those lovely relaxing days between Christmas and New Year’s when we are on vacation and make time to sit around, play games and sometimes even eat some special treats.

This recipe is not health food. It is a fun snack that is easy to throw together but a little more festive than plain popcorn. The recipe calls for microwave popcorn, but you could substitute air- or pan-popped if you prefer. We think you could also substitute regular chocolate for the white chocolate, though we haven’t tried it yet.

Abbie adds: “My friend told me that at first glance this looks like pepper popcorn. Yeuch! It’s not though; it really is quite good!”

Oreo Popcorn

Ingredients

3 pkgs microwave sea salt popcorn
20 oreos
18 oz white chocolate bark

Directions

Crush the oreos in a big ziploc bag. Abbie used a rolling pin, but you could use your hands, a spoon, a mallet, or…?

Pop all three bags of popcorn. Let the popcorn cool a bit (be careful opening the bag!) and pour it into a large bowl or pan – we used the largest stockpot we have. Pick out the unpopped kernels.

Melt the white chocolate according to the directions on the package.

Add the crushed oreos to the popcorn and stir until evenly distributed.

Pour the popcorn mix onto two cookie sheets. We covered ours with parchment but you don’t have to. Allow the popcorn to harden then enjoy!
