A word or two from Mrs. Brown…\u00a0 <\/em>It has been non-stop fun for the Browns since early April! First we had a series of wonderful visits from family<\/a>, then Abbie performed in the world premier of a musical<\/a>, and then we hopped on a plane to Hawaii!<\/p>\n

We had all sorts of grand plans for posting from Hawaii… Abbie learned how to make a lei, and we even hunted down lei needles (ever heard of those?) Alas, a lack of flowers (the trees were all picked clean for Lei Day!) followed by a computer disaster, changed those plans. We are scouting about here in our Texan fields to figure out if any of our wildflowers are hardy enough to stand up to being strung, so there’s hope yet for a real lei forthcoming. A real Texan lei, if there is such a thing. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Miss Abbie told me near the end of our vacation “I am loving being in Hawaii, but I have to admit I am missing making things.” Funny thing is, she did<\/em> make things. Just not enough<\/em> things, apparently.<\/p>\n

Here a few flowery pictures we thought you might enjoy. Even though we didn’t see lots of flowers on the trees and ground as they usually are, flowers were still very much in evidence…<\/p>\n

One of the first things Abbie’s grandparents did when we arrived at the airport was to give her a lei.<\/p><\/div>\n

May 1 is Lei Day in Hawaii! Here is the outgoing monarch – the 2012 Lei Queen<\/p><\/div>\n

Among the activities at the Lei Day celebration was a place to learn how to make Leis. This lady is demonstrating how to put plumeria blossoms on a lei needle.<\/p><\/div>\n

Finished! The average plumeria lei has 40-60 blossoms, so they were just making bracelets.<\/p><\/div>\n
